Sergio Ramos signs his contract extension with Real Madrid

The captain will remain at the club for the next five seasons.

Sergio Ramos signed his contract extension with Real Madrid in the Board Room accompanied by the president Florentino Pérez and various members of the Board. The captain will remain at the club for the next five seasons. After putting pen to paper, he was presented with a replica model of the stadium and a jersey bearing his name as well as the number 2020.

Ramos: “Being the Real Madrid captain is an honour and a privilege”

“He is a Real Madrid symbol, this club is his home and is where he will continue to make history”, explained Florentino Pérez.

The Santiago Bernabéu's presidential box was the setting for Sergio Ramos contract renewal event. During the ceremony, the defender expressed his delight about being able to further build on his legendary status as a Real Madrid player: “Being part of this club is a dream that I would like to last for as long as possible. Playing for the greatest club in the world and wearing the captain's armband is an honour and a privilege, but it also entails a level of commitment and responsibility that I will continue to approach with excitement, sincerity and honesty”.

“This was a drawn-out renewal process but my head and my heart were always here. I couldn't be happier and as I always say, Hala Madrid!”.

Incentives to stay on
“My life has been divided between my childhood, the years I spent with Sevilla and my time with Real Madrid. That was enough motivation to opt for the greatest institution in the world. Another consideration was the happiness of my loved ones. I never said that I wanted to leave. It was always my intention to stay here and my dream is to be able to retire with Real Madrid. “We all have our own way of doing things, but I've always had fantastic teachers to look up to at Sevilla and here. Negotiation
“It's true that I wasn't comfortable with certain things but that has all been cleared up and I'm excited now to lead this team. Had it come down to financial reasons I wouldn't have stayed, because I could have earned more elsewhere. The differences have been resolved, and if there is anyone I need to thank for this, it is the president. In a sporting sense I love him like a father and I think he loves me like a son. Nigeria's Boko Haram militants 'have new leader'

The Nigerian-based  militant group Boko Haram has a new leader, Chad's President Idriss Deby says.

He did not say what had happened to Abubakar Shekau, but said he had been replaced by Mahamat Daoud - who has not been heard of before.

Mr Shekau has not featured in the group's recent videos, leading to speculation that he has been killed.

Mr Deby, whose troops have been involved in battling Boko Haram, said Mr Daoud was open to dialogue.

The BBC's Nigeria correspondent Will Ross says that last year, the Chadian leader was said to be brokering peace talks with Boko Haram.

But the negotiations never happened and were widely seen as a sham so some analysts will question how much credence to give to Mr Deby's latest comments about the jihadist group, he adds.

Mr Shekau took over as the group's leader after the its founder, Muhammad Yusuf, died in Nigerian police custody in July 2009.

Under his leadership the group has become more radical and carried out more killings.

Previous reports about his death proved to be untrue.

The last Boko Haram video, which was released earlier this month, showed an unidentified young man speaking in the name of the Islamic State in West Africa calling on people to be patient: "We are still present everywhere we had been before."

He spoke in the regional Hausa language, with an accent from the Kanuri ethnic group, to which Mr Shekau belongs.

In numerous videos, Mr Shekau has taunted the Nigerian authorities, celebrating the group's violent acts including the abduction of the more than 200 Chibok schoolgirls in April 2014.

He was last heard from in March, when he released an audio message pledging allegiance to the Islamic State (IS) group.

Last month, Nigeria's new President Muhammadu Buhari said he would be willing to negotiate with the Boko Haram leadership for the release of the Chibok girls - depending on the credibility of those saying they represented the group.

A previous prisoner-swap attempt ended in failure.

Earlier this year, Chadian troops played a key role in a regional effort to retake towns and villages held in north-eastern Nigerian by Boko Haram.

ABU Cisco Academy Produces First NetRider in Nigeria

The 2015 NetRiders CCNA competition for Sub-Saharan Africa was conducted by Cisco International and the results have since been released with young Mr. Clement OmachokoAgbo of ABU Zaria Cisco Networking Academy emerging the overall winner.Clement Agbobeat competitors from Ghana, Senegal, South Africa, Ethiopia and Kenya among several other countries that participated in the event.

 The announcement was contained in a July 9^th 2015 e-mail communication from Mr. ImohAkpan (CSR Manager Nigeria, Cisco Corporate Affairs) to the Head of IT Academy (ICICT) which oversees the affairs of the ABU Cisco Networking Academy. The e-mail began with a message from the South African Offices of Cisco stating that the competition actually covered the whole of Sub-Saharan Africa. “It is with great excitement to announce the top 2015 Network student in Sub-Saharan Africa from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU Zaria).”, Mr. Imoh announced in the e-mail that was copied to other Cisco Academies nation-wide. He further stated that “…it is certainly a major achievement to have for the first time since inception of the Cisco Networking Academy program in Nigeria a student coming top in the CCNA NetRiders competition from Nigeria. Please, join me to congratulate ABU Zaria for this outstanding achievement and being the first Academy in Nigeria to win the award.”, Mr. Imoh’s e-mail concluded. While responding to the good news, the Director of ICICT, Prof. S. B. Junaidu remarked that it was indeed pleasing to know that our Academy produced the first ever winner of that completion in Nigeria; adding that “this goes to further buttress why we are seriously upgrading facilities at the ABU Cisco Academy so as to always give the best to our students, in order to enable them not only compete globally but also emerge winners everywhere they go after going through their studies at our Academy”. An indigene of Benue State Nigeria, Mr. Clement OmachokoAgbo studied Electrical Engineering at ABU Zaria.
